Strobist Attempt # 1

          The last couple of months has been so crazy that I hadn't had the time to update this blog, but since the holidays are here, I found the time to update once again! Yay!

          I shot this around October, with the beautiful Estii Moreno. She needed some shots done for her Senior photos and I needed a model since I longed to test my new toys. In these photos I used my sb-600 with a 60 inch umbrella. Strobist photography here I come!

         Reviewing the results, I was left in awe. It was as if I was looking at an undiscovered effect of my camera. Photographs taken with natural light versus those with strobes give off a different feel like night and day.

Winter is coming fast. Looking at this photo reminds me of the warm rays of sun on my face, my feet on the smooth sparkling sand, and the salty taste of the cool ocean breeze. Ahhh my tropical dreams.

Senior Photos 2011 Feat. Christian

Hello beautiful people! I'd like you to meet Christian. Thisawesome guy chose me to do his senior photos for his high school yearbook.Doesn't he look great? Of course he does ^___^

Whatstarted out as a constricted, awkward atmosphere--which happens to 99% of my clients--graduallybut steadily became more comfortable. I owe it much to ~~my team of voiceactivated light stands~~ my cousin and sisters who were being their usualrandom selves. Due to this we were able to work at ease and thus producingbeautiful photos.

By the way, we were shooting by a touristy area in PacificGrove, California. However, this is quite unnerving to the already fragileself-esteem of the sitter. So instead of spending much time shooting in frontof a gawking audience, we ventured into the quieter residential part of the area.

Houses of differing structuresand themes, from homely garden cottages to renovated ultra-modern glass houses presentedthemselves as backgrounds to our delight. Of course there were some curiousstares from homeowners. Fortunately we didn't get in any kind of trouble since we were fully careful about respecting theirprivate property.

As wewere busy shooting, one person in a car drove by and offered us sushi in exchange for a photo. Eyesmet, eyebrows raised, then soon confused laughter ensued. Looking back, Iwonder if it truly was a joke. If that person was serious, would you take sushifor a photo?

Hello Chicago!

So I stayed in Chicago during the summer, and yes, during the skin-scorching heat wave. You know what? I absolutely love Chicago! The arts and architecture, the city lights, the generally cheaper price tags as compared to California, the food, and the music.
Above is the Buckingham Fountain in the center of the busy metropolis area of Chicago.

This gigantic metal sculpture is the Bean found at the Millenium Park. Tourists come here to admire the structure as well as the countless reflections seen when directly under the sculpture.

A Night By Golden Gate Bridge

If Paris has the Eiffel Tower, San Francisco, with all its precipitously entwining hills, has the Golden Gate Bridge. Built in 1933, the bridge saw many violent instances of destruction--well at least in Hollywood movies. The bridge itself is a fascinating display of architecture and design making San Francisco well worth of it's world wide fame. I would try to describe its elegantly massive structure stretched over the deep dark waters of the San Francisco Bay, but my words would do much injustice to this man-made feat. Instead, I'll let the photos speak for themselves.

Senior Shoot: Marisya and Eddie

           To continue where I left of in the other post, I have put up some photos of Marisya and Eddie. Both were very willing to pose despite being totally new to all of this. After a few awkward laughs and state of confusion, both became more comfortable in front of the camera. It would have definitely helped if I was more of a source of hilarity. Fortunately, my sister and my cousin, both friends of the subjects, were there to enliven the mood. This helped relax the subjects and made it more likely to shoot real emotions and expressions.
   Marisya and Eddie aren't a couple by the way. It just happened that they looked extremely gorgeous together.
           We shot at the beautiful Carmel beach. Thankfully, it was a sunny day instead of the typical gloomy Monterey weather. Lots of locals love days like these, so you see them strewn across the beach interspersed between the usual European or Asian tourist.

Last year, my youngest sister asked me if I can shoot portraits of her friends and herself for the yearbook. Excited was and understatement, I was jumping up and down due to the chance given to practice. Here are some photos of Alexis, one of my sister's friends.

The Beginning

It's been about a year now since I had my DSLR. When I firstgrabbed my camera out of the box, I was amazed at its simplicity and sleekblack frame. After close examination, I carefully twisted the ON switch. andimmediately wanted to shoot. However, I was dismayed. The photos that turned upwhere much like the photos I took with my point and shoot--it looks normal.Where were the 'oohs and ahhhs' ? Wherewere the tinsel town-like magic? Was I fooled into buying something sounnecessary and expensive?

Thesethoughts hovered over my head for quite some time. Of course any kind of machinery,without any mastery of its mechanics, will fail even in its most common task. SoI decided to finally learn and persevere one step at a time.

So my sister has been constantly ~~bugging~~ encouraging me to make my own blog. Being an avid blogger herself in the beauty department, she wanted me to join the craze. I, however, will blog about life--the people, the places, and the thoughts that come with it. Let the fun begin!
